In harmony with the stone mountains of Oya

For over 1,500 years, the stone mountains of Oya have stood in silent endurance. Born of volcanic activity, they were shaped by human hands — carved to build a town, sustain daily life, and give form to spaces of prayer. It is said that this building began with a single stonemason — a gesture that seemed to embrace the mountain itself, telling the story of a community that lives in harmony with stone. Through the quiet passage of time, it has remained — unchanged, yet ever resonant with the spirit of its surroundings. Now, as if awakening once again, the Oya Grand Center begins to carve a new chapter in its enduring history.

STORY

By revisiting the history and culture of this town shaped by the Oya stone industry — its nature, its landscape, and the sensibilities rooted in this land — we have sought a form of richness that is not bound by time, but grounded in place. This is the story of the Oya Grand Center: a narrative layered onto the long passage of time held within these stone mountains, and within the building that stands alongside them.

ART SPACE

ART SPACE

In the permanent exhibition, visitors can experience works by the artist YOSHIROTTEN. The singular sound and moving images — composed from materials gathered through repeated field research in Oya — transform with the surrounding space, with the seasons, and with the passage of time, revealing a unique expression in every moment. It is, in essence, a fusion of the stone mountains shaped by nature and the forms carved by human hands. Within a space that still carries the traces of its past, you can encounter Oya as interpreted through his distinct perspective. In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions are also planned. Please visit NEWS for the latest updates.

Both hailing from Tochigi, they reinterpret Oya through the lens of flavor — distilling its essence into every plate. Please enjoy a world of local gastronomy crafted uniquely for this place.
